EA in partnership with Water Aid is implementing a project on Water Sanitation and Hygiene titled Sustainable WASH (SusWASH) project. This project also supports KCCA directorates for Health, Education and Strategic Planning to include elements that strengthen the sustainability of WASH services within their current plans.
This project aims to apply the learning and evidence generated from the SusWASH project to support Urban WASH policy processes as well as inform sector capacity development initiatives towards sustainability of water and sanitation services. The project also support 5 schools i.e. Mirembe primary school, Kansanga seed secondary School, Railway primary school, Nateete secondary school and Ntinda school for the the deaf in improving WASH and develop capacity in planning, M&E and Operation and maintainance for the sustainable WASH improvement interventions.
Previously EA conducted a survey to assess the WASH status of these schools. Results showed a number of gaps on Planning for implementation of WASH amongst the target schools, Inclusive WASH, Operation and Maintenance, Monitoring and Evaluation, thus a corrective action is required to offset the gaps. such as; un-costed WASH plans, inadequate safe drinking water points and those available are not inclusive to cater for the disabled, poor management of incinerators, among others.
It’s against this background that EA is organizing a combined training for the SMCs and WASH responsible teachers/patrons to develop their capacity on effective planning, costing and improvement of WASH in their schools., the action from the first day of the training will be the development of the WASH improvement plans and these plans shall be validated on the second day of the workshop.
